Every Cloud...

Hey Ya (my homage to last night's Will & Grace.) I wasn't gonna post today but I thought I should maybe lift the gloom of the last post. I had a much better day yesterday. I helped a bunch of people while I was on Guide, including the prettiest little Irish boy I have ever seen in my life! He was CUTE with a capital UTE! I was talking to him giving him advice thinking 'you've been looking at him too long now, look away!' We had a coffee and cake thing for one of the girls who turned forty, but I missed it cos I had to go to some seminar. I didn't mind too much though because I snuck into Faith on the walk back to work (seminar was on the other side of town). They had nice ballet flats for work but they didn't fit me, I'm a size 4 usually but these 4's were just a little tight and the 5 were like flippers on me. Weezer has a similar problem, she's size 3 and is considering shopping in Next Kids. Anyway I felt really naughty and got back to work in time for my break. I did some good work yesterday sorting out a fuck up on the book move and a couple of tricky customers. I'm okay when left to my own devices; IN YOUR FACE, Hag! Ahem. That was a minor glitch. Let the good news commence:

I overslept on Thursday and woke up at 7:28. I still made it into work on time and caught the quarter to 8 bus! How is that physically possible! Watched Mean Girls again. One of my favourite films! And some Sex and the City. Yesterday I got some news from my friend Rosebud, who has - finally! - given birth to her second daughter, at 7lb 15 oz! She has given her a name similar to mine and her initials are mine and my boyfriends, so I approve! :)

I heard back from one of my old tutors that I love recently too, he's so adorable and sweet. My current tutor passed my registration problems on to him because he's always on leave, and I got an email from him saying that he'd try and sort it all out for me, "Registry at their best again!" He is so lovely, I wish he was still my tutor instead of old Droopy Drawers. I'm gonna try and get some work done on it this weekend. You know, if I can fit it around the shopping.

What else? Oh yeah, I ordered some stuff off Amazon, all 'usually dispatched in 24 hours'. I won't get them for like three weeks! What up with that? They are mostly point and click role playing type computer games, because MJ and I decided it was time for a trip down memory lane. We used to play them all the time with my dad, so we thought we could spend some quality time nerding it up together over pizza and cans of Coke (somehow obligatory). That plan is now on hiatus.

I've spotted a couple of jobs I'm gonna apply for at some point over the weekend too. It's not that I desperately hate my job or anything, but I want to keep trying for better positions with more prospects. I am not feeling 9 to 5, and would really love to do something creative. I'm thinking of going to art classes when I've finished my MA. I have no direction to speak of do I? :P Maybe I'll just up and go, be a professional beach bum in some tropical paradise. But knowing my luck I'd probably get eaten by a giant polar bear.

The Plastics

Yesterday, my mum went Christmas shopping. She's actually started pretty late this year, as she's usually got a truckload of presents in by the summer. Anyway, she picked up some Li'l Bratz toys for my niece, who loves them. They're billed as the li'l girls with the big fashion sense!

Now, is it just me, or are these a bit worrying as far as self images for little girls go? I mean, I know the same has been said about Barbie for years and years (and I had like a gazillion Barbies), but seriously now, when the L'il Bratz grow up, they're gonna look like this. They're either seriously emaciated or have inflatable heads. And since they're meant to be 'li'l girls', aren't they a bit young for eye lifts and collagen injections?

I don't know. At least Barbie had multiple careers, various property investments and dumped Ken for a surfer toyboy.

Are you ready boots?

A quick pitstop at bloggerville. I'm a bit under the weather at the mo' (but still at work, breathing all over everyone, muahahaha!) so yesterday my boyfriend bought me a present, a pair of gorgeous snuggly slippers/boots from Next to keep my tootsies warm. How cute is he! I love them. I am hoping they're okay as I heard there was some red wine spillage last night in their vicinity, but I haven't checked yet 'cos I'm playing wage slave. I'll post a pic later, because I'm that sad. (Update: there were a few splashes, but they cleaned up real purdy!)

I've put some leave request forms in so I'm hoping I get them before I put another cheeky request in for a week off in October. We're hoping to skip over to France for a few days, if Boyf gets time off work. And that's a big IF. Fingers crossed!

As for today, I have mostly: been using Powerpoint and the laminating machine. Excitement!

PS Potter gets my sense of humour. I made him belly laugh. 10 points.

To be continued...

As I'm at work I can't update ya'll on the fun of the weekend yet, but you can expect a rave review of Crash (okay maybe not a bona fide review, more of a thumbs up), and pictures of cute animals from my trip to the Zoo! So check back, I promise Orangutans!

Oh, and by the way, last week when putting together information packs for new students, Potter asked whether he had overtaken me or if I'd lapped him... so. hard. not to make a dirty joke! See, I'm resisting.

"No thank you, I don't like food."

I'm sitting here in a New York t-shirt my dad brought back from his trip. I feel like crap today and have just been hanging out at home. I watched Hulk. It was verrrry slooooow. Yesterday I had a half day at work. You would not believe how excited I was about that fact. Unfortunately I was there just long enough to catch the lurgi from Weezer so now I'm sick. Weezer has been sniffling into a hanky for most of this week. The other day she had chills and borrowed a long black cardigan four sizes too big for her from a more mature lady colleague of ours. In this state, she was asked out by one of the international students, who had earlier asked her about parking his car in an airport in Amsterdam. For some reason, a lot of students think we possess all the information in the world, or perhaps that we're part-Google. She turned him down, pretending that she had a boyfriend when he asked why. Then she told us a funny story about her friend who, when asked to go for a meal by an unwanted admirer could think of nothing else to reply with but "No thank you, I don't like food."

Anyhoo. I went shopping straight from work and attributed my aching limbs to tiredness and sore throat to not having much to drink. I tried on perhaps a million pairs of black trousers, and finally found some in the last shop we had agreed to visit. I don't know what it is about me but I find it so hard to find trousers that fit me properly. Firstly, they're nearly always too long unless I buy petite sizes, and secondly, they never fit my waist and rest precariously upon my hips instead, whether they were intended as hipsters or not. Ergo, I couldn't get the gorgeous pinstripe ones I wanted. But nevermind, they're only for work. I picked some simple tops up in Topshop for work too. Boyf met me for a late lunch at Charlie Rockets. I had a milkshake and we both had Classic burgers. We were meant to go and see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory but Boyf didn't feel too well so we came home and resolved to go another night. I can't wait to see it, it looks so good and I have heard much raving from pretty much everybody who has been to see it. Potter was particularly enthusiastic, and is going to see it again when he can.

Things are going okayish at work (touch wood). Friday was okay but Thursday I had a couple of angry phonecalls. Why do people shout at you as if them losing their password or not being able to remember the name of a firm that rents computers is your fault? And by the by, I don't even work at the computer desk. Thank goodness for the nice ones is all I can say. When you help someone and they actually appreciate it it is such a nice feeling; it costs nothing to be polite and friendly.

So that's my rant for now. I'm off to have a lovely cup of tea, and I'm going to go crazy and have sugar in it. I'm so rock 'n' roll me!

Pink: it's like red but not quite

'Sup. Just a quickie. I've booked some days off work over the next month to get some work done on my dissertation, which is suffering even more terribly from neglect since I started working full time. Gizmo is looking even funkier today, dude has pink hair :) My shopping trip at the weekend wasn't as successful as I'd hoped, but I did get a new watch, a shirt and some nail polish that matches said shirt. Also met boyf in town and ate out at Nando's - yum to both. I'm going to buy my niece part two of her birthday present tonight as well; part one is a Barbie rucksack, beach ball and pink towel set for her holidays. She will be seven, going on 30. Took Puppy for a stroll in the woods yesterday where he narrowly avoided being eaten by a Bullmastiff. How narrowly I hear you ask? About four foot off the ground, dangling from his harness in the vicinity of boyf's waist.

EDIT: I take it back, I've seen it up close (and introduced myself), it IS red.

Ahhhhh, smells like Friday

Overheard in work today:

Q: Are you going to So-and-so's party?

A: I can't, I've got to go to Baghdad.

I spent some time with Weezer today, who felt exactly the same way as me about the Staff Room and she's been there three years, so hoorah, it's not just me. While we were on the counter two blokes came to return books and one hurriedly declared: "My friend said you are both very pretty." And he didn't even have fines to bribe his way out of! I liked the way he hedged his bets there too.

So, this weekend, this fabulous, marvellous, miraculous couple of days when I am not a wage slave, I am free to shop. Granted, I am mostly buying work clothes but I'm sure I will still find some pleasure in the task :) I'm also after shoes and a watch. I'm supposed to be squeezing some work on my dissertation in too. I so can't be arsed with it but I really have to now, it's getting very close to the wire. I have a few days off to book so hopefully I can spend them on it; then it can finally be out of the way and I can be liberated from pondering symbolic cannibalism and panopticism forever!

Mrs. De Winter

My hugely knowledgeable and therefore incredibly annoying friend (kidding) made me change my browser to firefox, and now my blog looks different and I don't like it! I'll get over it. Been busily typing useful quotes to papier mache my essay out of today. Spent the weekend catching up with my mates, playing crazy golf and shivering my ass off in Southport. Saw a little dog running around in a jumper. I want one for my puppy! Apparently you can get them with their names on too. How cute! Unless your dog's called Killer or Tank or Butch or something more suiting a studded collar I suppose. I also have to admit to watching Fame Academy. Purely for charitable purposes, of course! I have to say I'm loving it. I'll be phoning up for Edith, and maybe Gina.

For those keeping track, namely me and the boyf, the crazy golf tournament, (of which I was self proclaimed champion last year as I won two free games! Oh, the amazement. ) currently stands at a score of 1-1.

My crazy friend, let's call her Mrs. De Winter (you know who you are!) may have a very decent job offer in the pipeline, so congrats and crossed fingers go out to her. You were made for it I'd say Mrs. W! No dragging your colleagues (or a certain person) down to your beach hut! You don't need me to tell you where that leads...

Bit of Skirt

I got my new skirt that I ordered today! It's fab, my sister's jealous of it which is always the test, and it goes great with my boots. The boots give me leccy shocks, which is pretty annoying! Maybe it was just because I stuffed my jeans in them though? Could this cause static? I don't know. It's a mystery. In study news, I drew an excellent spider diagram today planning the introduction and probable first chapter of my essay. It's a shame to have to elaborate on it really. Are there degrees in spider diagrams? Maybe I could plan peoples essay's for them for a small fee. Plans for later include filling in job applications. A necessary evil if I ever want a place of my own. And I do. Every time I see a home magazine I can't help picking out throw pillows and crockery. I'm a bit of a strange 22 year old. Perhaps I should get a job as an interior designer. Or, more achievably, as a waitress in a Greek restaurant, where I could theoretically order new plates to my hearts content. There was other news too but it's of such magnitude I've forgotten it.

Tuesday Morning

It's early Tuesday morning. I have this annoying cold that rather cruelly won't let me sleep through its yuckifying effects. My poor baby puppy has one too. I call him a puppy but he's really not, but he's still little and cute so I think he qualifies :) I have zero plans for today even though there are lots of things I should be doing, I have like six months of studying to catch up on and a wardrobe explosion in my bedroom. I still can't believe Christmas is over and we're in the second month of 2005! So, my lovely friend David told me to start up a blog, and here I am. It was my New Years resolution, well, one of a bunch of resolutions, so I'm a bit late. My other ones are generally more philosophical, things like living a more full life, the kind of resolution you make nearly every other day truth be known. My cold has put paid to that one for the past week or so too! It's really thrown me off my natural rhythm; I woke up at 5 am this morning with the desire to go out dancing. I have unworn outfits in my wardrobe, I blame them, that always bugs me.
